Minnetonka Choral Society proudly presents its 2023 holiday concert
Great Christmas music is timeless, often mysterious in origin.
It has only recently come to light that “O Come, All Ye Faithful” was created by an English priest living in France who wrote it in Latin because his French wasn’t up to the task. (We’ll sing it in English with our audience.)
We’ll enjoy one of the great Christmas lullabies, “Coventry Carol,” in two lovely versions, from 1591 and 1913. And we’ll present a carol with a text from the 4th century, music from the 16th century, plus translation and arrangement from early and late 20th century.
To these age-old miracles, we’ll offer songs by jazzy Dave Brubeck and soulful Bobby McFerrin, as well as a jazz-based version of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” in honor of that poem’s 200th anniversary this year. We’re presenting our widest variety of seasonal songs ever, and just maybe the most merry!
